On Jefferson

I was drawn to Thomas Jefferson through the relationship between Greece and the United States, the two countries that have shaped my life. His exchange with Adamantios Korais made that connection especially meaningful to me.

A Greek scholar and an American statesman considering how learning and practical experience might serve the future of Greece: that relationship between people, as well as countries, is what I wanted to express through this portrait. Read about Jefferson and Korais and their correspondence.
